The results of three years ERASMUS+ K2 MMATENG project at PSTU and new horizons of international cooperation


On the 25th-29th May of 2017 French city of Lille hosted the final conference of the MMATENG project (modernization of curricula of two-tier training program (Bachelor / Master) of engineering materials based on competency approach and the best practices of the Bologna process implementation - 543994-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-BE-TEMPUS-JPCR). The Results of the 3-year project were announced in the National school of Chemistry in Lille (École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille), which is one of five European partners. By having initiated the project and having offered its implementation strategy, PSTU introduced 14 core and 3 transferable curricula. One of the main courses "Perspective Strengthening Technologies of Materials Treatment" was developed by PSTU Professor A. Cheylyah and implemented in 9 partner universities. Thanks to the project, the research laboratory of Information Technology of Materials (MITL) appeared in PSTU, equipped with the latest computers and software and Material Engeneering Service Office of "MESO», equipped with modern  hardness testers and microscopes . «Strengthening Technologies of Materials Treatment" textbook was published in English and Russian. One of the main achievements of the project was creation of an international MESO network, which functions as a strong link between the universities of Europe, Ukraine and employers. Due to the project, the students studying Material Science  will acquire updated education curricula with all European standards, and the lecturers began to use teaching methods received from leading European universities in Europe. MMATENG project provided nine lecturers of PSTU with an opportunity to attend trainings in universities of Poland (Cracow University of Technology) and Belgium (KU Leuven).

 At the final conference in Lille PSTU was represented by prof. AP Cheylyah, the Project Coordinator in Ukraine and O. Khadzhynova,  the Dean of Faculty of Economics. All 16 members of the consortium signed a Memorandum on further cooperation, which outlined ideas for new joint educational and research projects. Attraction of new universities and industrial collaborates in the project MMATENG + is ongoing. New areas of cooperation with universities in Belgium, Poland and France toward ERASMUS + K1 - individual mobility were also discussed at the conference. Thanks to the MMATENG project PSTU strengthened its reputation among European universities as a reliable partner that is up to date and able to respond quickly to the rapidly growing demands of the labor market and prepares professionals that meet the current requirements of employers.
